Since losing our Kubo, I've noticed a big change in our Piper 💔Piper is a big personality. She is a glorious little nut, but she is super sensitive.Kubo was her confidence 😞He was fearless, which rubbed off on her.Losing him has had a massive impact on all of us. He was a once in a lifetime dog 💔Our Piper is much more quiet at home and is now a little anxious while out and doesn't really want to leave our side.How I'm helping -* Having fun with basic obedience - ensuring she is listening and complying. As you know we lost our Kubo last Thursday evening 💔Almost 4 weeks ago he ended up having surgery to remove his spleen which had a mass on it that had ruptured. It was also discovered that he had a large mass on his liver 😞Thanks to Belrose Veterinary Hospital the spleen removal surgery gave us an extra 3 weeks to be with him 🙏The type of dog Kubo was - he healed up so well after that surgery and was raring to go. Cancer didn't stop him or define him 🙏Then the floor fell out of our world when he crashed last Thursday - the mass in his liver ruptured. He crashed very quickly.He took him to NEVS where they very kindly and considerately helped us send him on. A horrible, horrible time, but their care was appreciated 🙏I love my vet. I know they loved Kubo and I know they love your animals too.Never take them for granted. They have to wear many different hats which we tend to forget.Thank you Belrose Veterinary Hospital 🙏 Make sure you tell your vet how much you appreciate them - it will mean a lot to them xo#dogtrainer #dogsofnorthernbeaches #northernbeachesdogs #northernbeachespuppies #northernbeachespets
My Kubo 💔 with victory on his face because Wasabi didn't get up and move away from him...This photo was 7 years ago. He was only 18 months old.He eventually wore her down and they both became thick as thieves 💗After his surgery she sat on his bed and gave him little nose boops. My Piper helped in my first puppy class this morning by demonstrating calmness in her crate. She also came out and showed calm impulse control and focus while off lead.She was amazing 💕Second puppy class she remained in her crate and just watched. She didn't want to be inside by herself today and that is ok.She is not herself at the moment. Kubo has an aggressive form of cancer 💔The darling husband and I have spoken with our glorious vet - Belrose Veterinary Hospital . We need to be realistic and we are so appreciative of Dr Tim for giving us a little more time with him 🙏After having his spleen removed, he is now back to being cheeky and full of fire, which is fantastic.While we love up on Kubo, I cannot forget about Piper. She's only known a life with Kubo as well as Cumin and Wasabi.In a multi dog house, it is imperative to teach each animal to be independent. Be best friends - yes, but we need to teach them to be independent and look to us for guidance, not each other.I will be doing more outings with her separately and taking Kubo out while she stays home.When Kubo's time comes, I will also have to be very aware of her within my own grief and keep busy - for both our sakes.If you have dogs that are overly dependant on each other, start working on that now so they look to you for comfort, guidance and direction. So last week was a roller coaster for us 😞I noticed Kubo was off very early on Tuesday morning.Long story short - he deteriorated over a couple of hours - 8.01am I was on the phone to my most wonderful vet - Belrose Veterinary Hospital . We took him up straight away suspecting a blockage of some sort.Unfortunately Dr Tim opened him up to find a ruptured mass on his spleen - which was removed. Kubo also has another very large mass on his liver.He came home to us on Wednesday afternoon after spending the night at NEVS.HE had his post op check this morning. The fabulous lad nosed his way straight into the clinic and stepped onto the weigh scale, his little tail wagging.He is rather perky today, but unfortunately it is now a waiting game.He could be with us for another week or month. He won't become an old boy 😭 but he will be spoilt rotten for however long we have.The darling husband and I are obviously numb and in shock - the page will be a little quiet for a while.Cuddle your dogs for me guys. Here's the thing...Don't make excuses for your dog.He's a rescue...She's a baby...He wants to say hello...She loves people...He loves balls, he wants your dog to chase him...Good grief Charlie Brown... 🙄😩I've had a total knee replacement - 8.5 weeks post op.A 16 month old adolescent dog came charging over to the darling husband and I.Jumped on my John and scratched the back of his leg 🤬 then decided to try me.Normally I'm pretty neutral and move on, but I don't want to be jumped on at the moment... Off lead dog parks.Here's the thing...Almost everyone goes there so their dog can run around and 'play' with other dogs.In doing this, their dog now becomes hyper aroused and charges into the park and proceeds to 'play'.The problem now is the owner is of absolutely no value to the dog at all.It has now become an expectation... Dog park = hyper, play with other dogs and ignoring owner.Recall - nup 🙄Don't be that person.It is not necessary for your dog to play with every dog or person they see.Layer up the foundation.
